Since 2008, Melwood has provided Recycling Services for a number of highly secured federal sites. Our Recycling services business line is designed to reduce the National Capital Region’s waste stream, prevent pollution and conserve material resources.
We coordinate with military service locations and base commands to stage, transport, sort and process all recyclable materials for re-sale in accordance with federal and state recycling guidelines. A few of the facilities which take part in the recycling program include the Washington Navy Yard, Naval Support Facilities Arlington, Naval Support Facilities Carderock, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, the US Naval Observatory, Marine Corp Base Quantico, Patuxent River, the US Naval Academy, and the Naval Research Lab. We comply with fire, safety and sanitation regulations at four Public Works Departments (PWD): PWD Washington, PWD South Potomac, PWD Patuxent River and PWD Annapolis.
Our teams recycle over 4 million pounds of material per year (cans/bottles/glass, mixed/ white/shredded paper, cardboard, toners, pallets, books and metal), with a six-figure annual revenue returned to the federal government.
