Upon graduating with her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Aundrea came to a realization that she wanted to pursue a career as a psychologist. After having majored in English, she knew that she would have to gain relevant experience within the psychology field in order to pursue a career in psychology.
So she researched facilities that would provide her with the opportunity to communicate with persons with differing abilities. Melwood has provided Aundrea with that opportunity by allowing her to volunteer for a number of programs working directly with the people we serve. Her volunteer experience at Melwood has been very rewarding. She says that she has met some of the most positive individuals that have for so long been stigmatized. She most enjoys watching them sing with passion during karaoke, dance to their favorite songs, and cheerfully compete for prizes as everyone cheers them on. She witnesses their positive personalities, along with the staffs’, and says they have created a beautiful atmosphere at Melwood. For these reasons, and more, she is grateful for the opportunity to volunteer at Melwood.
