The Melwood Recreation Center team came together to continue a growing tradition during The United Way of Charles County 22nd Annual Day of Caring. On September 1st, staff members spent the day volunteering at the Charles County Humane Society for an afternoon of late ‘spring cleaning’. The Humane Society provided gloves, water and plenty of encouragement as Melwood’s team organized crates, de-cluttered the grounds and cleaned-up the surroundings.
As a special thank you for their time and effort, our staff relished in some socialization time with a few of the organizations’ furry friends! “I’ve never been a part of such a large, positive collaboration between local non-profits and although today has been a challenge; it’s been great fun,” said Ben Head, Melwood’s Access Adventures Travel Coordinator.
An annual tradition since 1995, United Way’s Day of Caring encourages partnering agency to help out other organizations around their community by lending a helping hand. This year over 240 volunteers assisted with more than 34 projects in Charles County. Some of these projects included gardening, landscaping, arts & crafts, meal delivery and much more. It was a great day to see everyone come together and ‘Live United’.
