December 2nd is Giving Tuesday

Dear Melwood Family,

On December 2nd nonprofit organizations around the world will celebrate Giving Tuesday! This year marks the 3rd annual celebration of the global day of giving. Its purpose is to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in charitable giving campaigns. What a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season! First we give thanks and then we give back.

Melwood has celebrated an extraordinary year of innovation. Our recreation center has partnered with the KIPP Academy in Washington DC to provide opportunities for inner city youth to participate in our equestrian program. The organization was awarded its first new contract in over three years at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. Through that contract Melwood will add 11 new jobs; o=providing new opportunities for job training and employment to the people we serve. We also recently launched our electronics recycling program. As a result Melwood created 23 jobs, exposing people with differing abilities to new skills and career paths. In November, we launched Operation: Tohidu, a rehabilitation and therapeutic recreation program for wounded warriors living with post=traumatic stress. The first session of Operation: Tohidu was an amazing success and we look forward to advancing the program in the coming months. These are just a few of the new initiatives Melwood has implemented in 2014.
