Employee of the Month

Each month Melwood recognizes outstanding employees for their exemplary work and dedication to the organization. The following Melwood employees were selected as our June Employees of the Month:

 Direct Support Employee: Megan Teall, Program & Outreach Coordinator, Recreation Center, Nanjemoy

Meg started at Melwood as a seasonal employee and returned full time in April 2015. Meg consistently is positive, professional, and focused on doing what is best for her employees, her participants, and Melwood.  Meg is adept at seeking and receiving constructive feedback, and will approach her supervisor with positive, solution-based approaches to issues. When an issue has already occurred, Meg often has already begun determining steps for resolution and future prevention. Meg’s ability to handle stress and manage conflict flows down to her employees.  She is an excellent team player and works very well with diverse populations of families, participants, employees, and co-workers. She is always willing to step in and take on additional roles, and will often approach others when she senses that workloads are unbalanced to ask what she can do to support. In her role, Meg transitions seamlessly between camp director, behavioral support, supervisor, wedding planner, and parent mediator.  She is constantly seeking ways to grow and develop as an employee, as well as ways to help the Recreation Center grow and develop.  Meg handles incidents and issues as stepping-stones versus stumbling blocks.  She is always willing to work additional hours and is responsive to co-workers, families, and her supervisor even during her time off.   Meg consistently receives positive feedback from families and co-workers.  She is a capable and independent employee who takes pride in being an active member of the Melwood community.

Custodial Employee: Alfreda Hamlett, Foreman, NEOB

Alfreda Hamlett continues to take the initiative to assist employees with the application process and scheduling appointments for staff at NEOB who need employee badges. Alfreda is always willing to help out with anything that is asked of her, while ensuring that her daily tasks are completed as well. She truly deserves the employee of the month recognition in appreciation of her hard work. 

Other Facilities Operations Employee: Mark Fraser, Material Handler/Driver, Navy Yard

Mark is one of the senior leaders in the recycling department at the JBAB facility. He has been a member of the recycling team at JBAB since October 2008.  Mark arrives to work well before he is scheduled to ensure he has all the supplies he needs for the day and that his vehicle pre-trip inspection is completed.  He then assists his supervisor with opening the warehouse every morning. For the past few years, Mark has also provided services to the MCB Quantico facility and we have received several written customer compliments on his work. He has never hesitated to show our Quality Inspector around the base to assist with inspections and is always eager to help walk around and price new buildings for contract modifications. Mark has become quite the team player and always takes the initiative to help train new hires. Mark Fraser is a true professional and has built and maintained great working relationships with our customers. 

Shared Services Employee:  Patti Simons, Quality Control Specialist, DHR

Patti provides Quality Control services for the Washington Navy Yard, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Naval Research Laboratory, U.S. Courthouse, Carderock, Senate Child Care facility, Dahlgren, Indian Head, and Stump Neck. She is conscientious, dedicated and committed to the Melwood mission. Government Quality Control personnel regularly ask for Patti’s assistance in resolving issues at sites. Patti takes the time to provide refresher training to our employees whenever she sees deficiencies. Patti is an integral and important part of our Melwood team. In her role as a QC specialist she ensures our customers receive the high quality service they deserve.
