Before you bring a plant to your home, garden or within the vicitnity of your yard. Please be sure to research the plant's origin in order to ensure that you are not coming in contact with a toxic plant. There are certain plants that are very dangerous to your children and pets. Please be sure to utilize one of the many online resources available to ensure the safety of your loved ones. The United States Department of Agriculture provides a list of toxic plants at: http://www.ars.usda.gov/Main/docs.htm?docid=10086

The most common allergy is to poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac. We've all heard the saying - leaves of 3, leave them be - be sure to teach your children that phrase very early on.

Poison sumac, is much harder to identify so we recommend wearing long sleeves and pants if you're going to be in an outdoor area unfamiliar to you.
