Melwood offers a number of career opportunities to people of differing abilities. Find your new career here.
Dear Melwood Friends and Family,
On November 29th, nonprofit organizations around the world will celebrate Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving. Its purpose is to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in charitable giving campaigns. Collectively, we can strengthen our communities by making a commitment to give back.
Since its start, Melwood has set the standard for inclusion, employment and social entrepreneurship. Our vision has always been a world where people with differing abilities are fully included. Today, Melwood is one of the largest employers of people with differing abilities in the United States. We employ more than 925 people with differing abilities (51% of our total workforce); 75% are full-time.
Allow me to introduce you to Antonio. Antonio came to Melwood through the Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services. When Antonio’s parents adopted him as a young child he was nonverbal until the age of four. Struggling during his early years of school, Antonio looked to join Melwood’s growing custodial team right out of high school. Today, Antonio supervises a team of custodial workers at Melwood’s Retreat and Recreation Center in Nanjemoy, MD. Antonio’s social skills and willingness to learn allow him to manage daily activities and lead his team.
As of July, Antonio was also elected to the Melwood Board of Directors. He is excited about the opportunity of “sharing experiences as an employee with differing abilities and sharing ideas with the Recreation Center Staff.” Antonio is the face of Melwood’s future and we look forward to not only seeing him grow, but also seeing how he can help Melwood grow.
Melwood is continually developing new programs aligned with its mission. With your help, we will do even more in 2017. Your gift and partnership will help further the Melwood mission to advocate for and empower individuals with differing abilities to transform their own lives through unique opportunities to work and play in the community.
On behalf of the people we serve, I genuinely thank you for your support and invite you to visit www.melwood.org for more details.
Sincerely,
Cari DeSantis
