Melwood’s Retreat and Recreation Center hosted Cycle 11 of Operation: Tohidu last month. Twenty-two Veterans and active duty military personnel joined Clinical Director, Dr. Mary Vieten, and the Operation: Tohidu staff for a weeklong series of educational sessions and experiential learning activities focused on recovery, reintegration, nutrition, progression, and pain management.
Peer support also plays a vital role in the retreat model. Within the first few days, participants realize there are others who struggle with the same issues. They realize they aren’t alone and they grow together as a unit. This Cycle was no different. A group of strangers became family. They helped push each other to their limits and in turn they supported one another, growing, learning, and healing as a “new unit.”
As Operation: Tohidu continues to grow, so does the scope of the program and our ability to reach a broader audience. We look forward to expanding the program and continuing to watch it grow.
